Braid Theory-Backed Teams Land TEAMER Commercialization Awards.

NoviOcean, Slow Mill, and Blue Lotus Energy selected for Department of Energy (DOE) Commercialization Support with Braid Theory.

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 24, 2026 — With two new awards this round, Braid Theory is now the facility partner on three of the eleven Commercialization Support awards granted through the Testing Expertise and Access for Marine Energy Research (TEAMER) program supported by the Department of Energy (DOE). The Commercialization Support track connects marine energy developers with network partners to accelerates the journey from early-stage research and development (R&D) to commercial viability for marine energy and supportive technologies. NoviOcean and Slow Mill Sustainable Power received two of the five awards granted this round and joined Blue Lotus Energy Corporation, which was selected in a previous round. Braid Theory works directly with each team to move its technology from pilot and prototype stages toward commercial deployment.

Three Technologies, Three Paths to Market

NoviOcean's MediWave 850H is a wave energy-first offshore platform, with wind and solar available as optional modular add-ons. It's built to deliver stable, continuous power to coastal communities, ports, offshore infrastructure, and island grids that currently rely on diesel. Drawing from multiple energy sources on a single platform lets it produce more output while reducing both intermittency and cost compared to a standalone offshore wind or wave system. Through TEAMER, NoviOcean will work on business fundamentals, such as building a funding and go-to-market strategy and completing the regulatory groundwork needed to move from pilot deployment toward a broader commercial rollout in U.S. marine energy markets.

Slow Mill Sustainable Power is a wave energy technology targets coastal and marine users who need resilient, low-carbon power but are constrained by diesel dependence, grid limitations, or limited land availability, including islands, ports, maritime operators, and related coastal infrastructure. Slow Mill's TEAMER work focuses on de-risking its path to market: identifying which customers and regions to prioritize, building a go-to-market and funding strategy, and lining up the necessary partners and regulatory steps.

Blue Lotus Energy is aligning its field testing and performance data with the needs of near-term customers in offshore sensing, aquaculture, and other maritime applications that require reliable, low-maintenance power in challenging environments. Through TEAMER, Blue Lotus Energy is working to accelerate its transition from prototype validation to early commercial deployment, reducing market and adoption risk, preparing for paid pilot projects, and building a clearer, faster path to early revenue and scaled deployment.

Part of a Larger Pattern

These three awards add to a growing list of marine energy companies working with Braid Theory through TEAMER, and reflect a broader pattern: marine renewable energy is a maturing sector, and commercialization support is key to scaling it. Helping companies make that leap is the purpose behind DOE's TEAMER program, and Braid Theory is proud to be a supporting partner.
