Earthwise Sorbents Inc.
“Braid Theory understands our mission and technology and has provided us with incredible resources, mentorship, and support.”
Providing advancements toward cleaning coastal waterways, Earthwise Sorbents Inc., a sister company of Arctic Foam, pioneers an innovative approach by harnessing cutting-edge technology crafted from repurposed surfboard dust and assorted fabric waste materials. Following a chemical spill in their manufacturing facility, Co-Founders Jim Mullen and Andrew Jakubowski discovered that the residue from surfboard shaping exhibited a remarkable ability to swiftly soak up the spilled hydrocarbons. Building on this revelation, Mullen highlighted that the majority of hydrocarbon presence stems from day-to-day operations, with less than 5% attributed to actual spills. Thus, the incredibly sustainable, cost-effective, USA-made Earthwise sorbent technology, termed 'boom' was born.
Their groundbreaking solution is dedicated to eradicating hydrocarbons, microplastics, and pollution plaguing the waters of Southern California ports and coastal communities worldwide. After an impactful demonstration at IGNITE22, the technology has ignited widespread intrigue and enthusiasm within the local community, the bustling port, and, notably, among the forward-thinking minds at Braid Theory. Advancing within Braid Theory’s Blue Future Incubator, Earthwise Sorbents Inc. gears up into commercialization with their existing sorbent products. Their latest endeavor also involves the development of a patented next-generation clean-up technology, engineered specifically to absorb heavy metals coming directly from everyday port and marina operations. Teaming up with the University of San Diego, Earthwise has initiated rigorous testing to assess the validity of the sorbent technology and their efficacy in cleansing heavy metals from the environment.
